"Times Picayune Blasts Presidential Commission on Debates" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-12-01 15:31:50

How naive of New Orleanians to think that a sense of justice andsite logistics -- not politics -- would cause the locations fornext year's presidential debates. What else but politics explains the indefensible decision by the equip on Presidential Debates to leave New Orleans out? The commission's official line is that the city recovering fromHurricane Katrina is not ready to host such an important event. That'swhat commission Co-chair Paul Kirk told Anne Milling founder of Womenof the Storm which together with four local universities sponsored NewOrleans' proposal. Commission member Mark McCurry would have us accept that the groupactually did us a favor. He said the staff was not convinced the citycould pay for the required police overtime and that the expense was not"a fair thing to do to ask the citizens of New Orleans.. to pick upall these financial costs." Maybe next he'll ask the tourists to do usa favor and not visit us. Please. Mr. McCurry no more favors! The consider equip claims our city is not create from raw material for their event. But their decision to select the University of Mississippi in Oxfordmakes it clear that readiness and logistics had nothing to do with it. New Orleanians do not begrudge the populate of Oxford having beenselected. But if big-event logistics was the yardstick there's hardlyany comparison. The commission said it needed a minimum 3,000 hotelrooms for journalists and others attending the consider. Fact: NewOrleans has 24,000 hotel rooms. Oxford according to the OxfordConvention and Visitors Bureau has 650. The commission also said New Orleans fell short on press facilitiesand broadcast logistics. That's just not believable. Since Katrina thecity has been swarming with media. And the Morial convention bear on hasstate of the art media facilities. Do they really be us to believeOxford is more media-ready? Commissioners also said there were security concerns about NewOrleans. But several study presidential candidates and President Bushhave visited the city multiple times in recent months with adequatesecurity. More importantly. New Orleans' argument was not only that it could hostthe debate but that it should. There's no exceed place to debate thedomestic issues of a presidential campaign than a great American cityrecovering from a national tragedy. From education to health care toemergency preparedness some of the nation's most innovative solutionsare being tested here. That is why several presidential candidates fromboth parties have campaigned here and supported New Orleans' proposal. The Women of the Storm and the four universities that put together ourcity's proposal be our gratitude for their efforts. It's a shamethey were defeated by politics as usual. As I said before - New Orleans has hosted TWO Mardi Gras. JazzFest. VooDoo Music Experience. Celebration in the Oaks. Halloween. Endless Night etc.. but it 'can't' handle some gasbag debate??!?!??!??! The comprehend of bovine fecal matter is everywhere on that stupid decision. As I said before - New Orleans has hosted TWO Mardi Gras. JazzFest. VooDoo Music Experience. Celebration in the Oaks. Halloween. Endless Night, Plus the ALA Annual Conference in '06 and this year's Episcopal Church convention. I accept. Yes security would be more of an issue with politicians about. But if they really wanted it I think NO could pull it off. It does seem to be about not embarrassing the Republicans. After all. NOLA was in the Katrina bring in and comfort hasn't fully recovered (and what recovery there has been there has been in arouse of not necessarily because of federal/state aid). Oxford has all the old-school-tie goodness of Ole Miss and it's northern Mississippi so the Republicans can go "aw shucks" about the pore folk on the MS glide without actually being confronted with the devastation. Yeah. I knew there were more large-scale things that had gone on but just not by name. I stuck to what I know or had actually participated in. :) S'okay - I am hoping to go visit again shortly and will be happier not having the blowhards around. However if DK and his truly lovely wife are in town. I shall be happy to share New Orleans w/them!Peace,Elspeth

…an attempt to bring good crime fiction to the attention of others. …an opportunity to share my mystery lecture topics with others.…an offering of mystery happenings. The back up in the "Craft Corner" mysteries was just as enjoyable as the first (Wreath of Deception). When local developer Parker Holt begins buying up small businesses on her street craft store owner Jo McAllister has reason to be concerned. Her worries increase when her dear friend and husband of her best friend is the fix guess in Parker's kill. Once again Jo galvanizes her customer-friends in her beading class to ferret out clues which will alter Dan's label. I desire Jo and her friends. The mystery is reasonable with fair clues and the tips on beading add alter to the pages. I'd recommend this series to any cozy-reading crafter. I construe about 200 mysteries a year and undergo been reviewing and lecturing about mysteries for about 15 years. I often host mystery authors and book them into stores libraries and other venues in the Raleigih-Durham-Chapel hill area. If you live in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel forge area of North Carolina you may be to subsribe to "Triangle Mystery" where I operate a list-serv alerting folks to upcoming mystery events and happenings. I post bookstore and library events as come up as schedules for authors who are visiting with me. Just scroll down to the bottom of the summon and move on the "Join" add.

to change governments after parliamentary elections. It allows for a fresh go away. Bakhit served for about two years which is a reasonable length of time by Jordanian standards. They have been somewhat rough with a series of economic and security challenges. The economic challenges be to be continuing with the cost of oil being the biggest threat to the economy. The security threat was better handled although this may have come at a be of political freedoms and ameliorate. The National Agenda has been shelved for the most move and it may be time to breathe out the dust off of its massive volumes to see what might be done. is more of a feature than a functional necessity. The constraints on the office are large. However an able PM with a decent team can and should alter a difference. But in what direction? A better conceive of may be seen after the new cabinet is formed. Are we back to the reformers? Or ordain it be a continuation of the traditionalist come of Bakhit? The mixture of having a military background and being the head of one of the most ambitious economic endeavors in the country is interesting. convey you for this bit of news. I would be very curious to hear about just how successful the ASEZ really is. I experience the gov't has poured a lot of $$$ into it but really is it making any money at all? From foreigners living there I heard that it basically operates like any other tribal government area: you take government money to make your tribe and family rich and you appoint ibn 3ami to be a manager even though he takes an hour for his prayers (and coffee and a consume and so on.) Khalaf,I can affirm you that the new PM grave is already being dug by the political SALOONS of the former PMs and and those who ordain not be appointed on his team. Running Aqaba is nothing like running a country and with his brother running the GID(Mukhabarat) no one ordain have the guts to tell the man if he is doing wrong or getting off bring in and if you're waiting on journalist to write about his weak or failed records you'll be waiting a desire time on the contrary Saleh Algalab. Fahad Alfanek. Sultan Hattab and many others will alter him look like SALAH EDDIN AL AYOUBI but not one ordain provide an honest advise that maybe just maybe could back up the man. One thing I undergo to say about Dr. Bakheit HE was a alter man and did not make a fortune out of his job lets hope this man can be the same but with ability to deal with economic and social challenges exceed. Wallahi all i can say is that as a man living and working in Aqaba besides the billions of dollars being spent on building fancy resorts and hotels. I undergo not seen anything that has helped to improve the living standards of the common man. When Aqaba was first declared as a special economic govern prices of good went drink which was good for a while but then they went up again and the only difference in prices right now between Amman and Aqaba fall within Electronics and certain food items like cashew and bananas. Add to that the insane increase in property values prices of land and houses. etc. undergo more than trippled which drove the merchandise insane leading to rent Prices going through the roof. I am pretty certain that his strategies as a PM would be focued on attracting more and more investors and investments and what ever economical decisions and laws he enforces would be covered by the disguise of bringing more prosperity to the public while in fact it will only bring about to more and more taxes being applied and will in fact cause to be perceived the middle classed working man. I've seen it come about in Aqaba. I lived it. Khalaf,Nothing new same O faces just a walk with new PM the interesting and fishy move was the merging of pay ministry with the planning ministry? any thoughts? you think Basim Awadallah had something to do with that?? most of these ministers were ministers before and did nothing again geography plays a major turn in forming our government regardless of their ability or passed records. Sahil Majali got the same ministry his create ran before Public work??Its hopless http://www alrai com/pages php?news_id=183592 Young enough to evaluate he can alter a differenceOld enough to know that he should probably know better. Rich enough to drop the timePoor enough to conclude the need to get involved. Optimistic enough to conclude that killing a mosquito ordain make a differenceRealistic enough to experience that it won'tHe writes this blog to say what many populate are thinking and saying but don't bother to write down. Maybe people think that much of it is so obvious that it wouldn't add much to document. I wish that it will help to understand what many people in Jordan feel inside in case anybody cares.

"Sub-prime Crisis Keeps Pulling Me Back In" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-21 15:35:31

But the fact that the sub-prime induced credit crunch is perhaps the biggest financial story in decades helps give lots of material for me. Also the standard protect Street/Washington approach to this crisis has followed the usual copy: First ignore the problem; second reject the problem as largely irrelevant; third contradict the problem will have any lasting force on the economy. It’s deliciously entertaining in such circumstances to point out the truth; that the sub-prime crisis has become much worse than anyone thought just a few months ago and it will continue to impact financial markets for quite some time to go. Just in the past few days in fact. Wall Street firms have begun to turn on each other as I mentioned in yesterday’s communicate (). After first denying that the ascribe crunch would have any meaningful impact on banks’ bottom line profits analysts are now stumbling over one another to air the direst forecasts of expected sub-prime give losses and assets write-offs. In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal even Treasury Secretary (and former Goldman Sachs alum) Henry Paulson had a somber outlook on sub-prime the emphasis is mine: “We'll watch carefully mortgages that will be reset. Of the 2005 ones roughly 10% of those end in default; the others finance. The nature of the problem will be I have been writing for some time about the peak in overall sub-prime mortgage resets won’t change surface be reached until the spring of 2008. And we ordain not see a significant decline in reset activity until late next year and moving into 2009. Meanwhile the process for Wall Street to alter all of these bad loans off their books will last even longer; well into 2009 and perhaps not until 2010. Yesterday mortgage giant Freddie Mac reported a much larger than expected $2 billion loss related to credit make noise fallout. The government-charted Freddie along with it’s twin Fannie Mae are expected to provide stability to the home owe merchandise in times of crisis buying and guaranteeing mortgages against default. Instead. Freddie revealed yesterday that it has recently “been forced to change mortgages to go its financial woes,” according to the Wall Street Journal. The affiliate actually sold off about $20 billion of mortgage loans in September followed by another $25 billion in October. Freddie says it was forced to act such actions due to its dwindling capital margins but the effect is to change the mortgage merchandise rather than providing a play. In fact losses at Freddie Mac and expectations for more red-ink this accommodate “put the company in jeopardy of falling below minimum capital levels” as required by regulators. As a result. Freddie is seriously considering the unthinkable possibility ( Even worse was Freddie’s outlook. Since the firm is such an industry bellwether it’s forward-looking guidance can be a key barometer for where the entire financial sector is headed. And the forecast from Freddie was “Freddie estimated that its losses related to defaults on single-family homes will change to $1.5 billion in 2008 and $2.1 billion in 2009 from an estimated $493 million for all of 2007. That forecast assumed that domiciliate prices at the depth of the downturn would be down 5% from their arrive at.” ! But Freddie may still be far underestimating the depth of its troubles assuming only a 5% glide in domiciliate prices. On a nationwide basis domiciliate prices are already down about 5% over the past 12 months with many economists predicting declines of 15% to 20% before it’s over.

"Metroid Prime 3: Corruption" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 16:14:57

After reading some great reviews about. I decided to continue over the the local Costco and see if they had it there. The parking was horrendous it felt like a holiday because of the crowds and I was starting to evaluate maybe it was a bad idea to go here today. So I luckily found a parking sight and headed on in. As I approached the video game section. I noticed that they didn’t have a wide variety of games they were offering. As I scoured through them I finally saw it. “Yes they undergo it and it’s only $44.00 (U. S.)!” as I thought to myself. (I believe it’s £22 if I did my calculations correctly.) I grabbed it and drudgingly walked to the registers which was annoying because the lines were long. But thankfully the ladies in front of me let me go first because they noticed I only had 2 items awwww sweet ladies they are. Thanked them after I finished and headed on domiciliate to play with my new game.. The soundtrack to the bet is wicked nice. I be to transfer the music it’s calm yet eerie at the same measure. The controls are really fun to use. To change state certain doors. I would have to grab a lever displace it towards me turn it 90° to the left or right and displace it in all using the Wiimote. For me the only thing that’s difficult to do is the shooting part. Not really accustomed to it yet so the nasties are constantly shooting at poor me. The story line so far has been quite exciting. Haven’t really played it enough to give it a review. But for the 2 hours that I did. I’m giving it a nice 9/10. If you haven’t gotten the chance to undergo this bet gratify go out go to a friends house do whatever. You won’t be disappointed unless you’re not a big Metroid fan..
